Setting of The Fellas, The mermaid and Me:

This short and exhilarating children’s book was set on the end of Ichabod street, close to the forest!

We tried to play basketball,

she slipped on the plate!

The Fellas, The Mermaid And Me.

Summary:

James and his four buddies (Eric, Duran, Santiago and Bran), not forgetting their very unusual water friend, Kris the Mermaid always hang out in an old shack on Ichabod Avenue.

James, as he usually does, teams up with his Mermaid friend for a game of Flurmasmaic Pageezans (if that is truly a game). Just like most days, the two due win this round!

In Kris’s excitement, she brings the the roof of the old little shack! They can’t stay inside anymore so they must find ways to entertain themselves. This would have been really easy if their friend who dwells in water could swap their fin for a pair of legs.

They try football, basketball, cycling and any outside game you could think of but the was always something to hold them back.

We tried to play hockey,

she couldn’t wear skates!

we tried to go racing

but she couldn’t bike

The Fellas, The Mermaid And Me.

Their rivals arrive in motorcycles to challenge them to a soccer match. They were very eager to accept and even though the opposing team discouraged and mocked them because of their friend who had no legs, they turned out victorious.

Kris, hanging from the poles, redirected all the balls that flew her way. Even her head got in on the action! She developed a new way to solve her problem of not having legs and her supportive crew came out the CHAMPIONS!!

DISLIKES:

There isn’t anything that i hated or disliked about the book but the writer failed to tell the readers what happened to the rival team after they lost. I really want to know if they sulked and cried all the way to their Mama’s!

Likes:

The Fellas, the mermaid and me was a great read. Well illustrated with really enticing characters. It is exactly what any young child would love to read over and over again. I loved the way the events played out perfectly and the words rhymed together in harmony.

I will totally reccommend this book for all children. The drawings were spot on and catchy , exactly what kids will enjoy.
